CREATE YOUR OWN BEAUTIFUL INSTAGRAM AESTHETICS

create your Instagram aesthetics

I get a lot of questions about how I edit my photos, how I organize my photos, how I take my photos, what apps do I use to edit my photos, and so on. I’m here today to share with you my techniques and my personal style when it comes to Instagram. The gram is constantly evolving. It almost feels like we get updates on a daily and with so many changes happening, you must keep up with all the trends. All while maintaining true to what you represent and what’s going to help you stand out from the rest. Remember there are millions of accounts on Instagram, you want to make sure that the users visiting your profile want to stay and follow you. It’s like falling in love at first impression. Of course, there’s an ingredient to this chemistry.

FIRST THINGS FIRST, PICK A THEME

Give your feed a theme like a color scheme or a type of area where you’d like to focus. Like fashion, travel, lifestyle, or a million photos of food. I like to personalize my feed by introducing my viewers to my actual day to day life. I like to share what I wear, where I travel to, what I’m eating, and tons of pictures of my dog Sawyer. You can say I like to keep mine between travel and lifestyle photos. I’ve always worked according to the seasons to have my feed flow. I share a few examples below.

WHAT I USE TO TAKE MY PHOTOS

When I first started Instagram back in 2011, I only had my iphone to take photos with, but quickly I bought myself a Canon, then a Nikon, and now a Sony alpha 6000. I also work with a lot of photographers. If I’m doing an #ootd post or a lifestyle post for example. I schedule all of my shoots months in advance to be ahead and not delayed on my post on Insta and my blog. I struggle with this a lot, and most of the time I don’t get it right, but everything is always a work in progress and as long as you keep working at it, the growth will come.

*If you don’t know of any photographer in your area, contact one by using your cities name and the word photographer through Instagrams tags/search, example: #miamiphotographer. You’d be surprised to see how many of them you will find. You can ask for a collaboration in exchange for photos or a paid shoot depending on your budget.

The new trend is photographers partnering up with bloggers to help each other grow and trust me – it works!*

ORGANIZING YOUR CONTENT ON INSTAGRAM

I recently started organizing and curating my content on Instagram and it has helped me A LOT – I plan my post starting on Sundays. I plan the look of my feed for the week. Again, this is a lot of work and you have to be committed. It will become easier as time goes by and you become adapted to following a schedule that you are comfortable with. I use Pinterest as a tool to help me plan the kind of outfit ideas I am going for and use Pin photos to upload onto a mood board to curate the feed I am going for. I love UNUM and it’s currently the app I use the most when it comes to arranging my feed and scheduling.

HOW TO CREATE AN EYE-CATCHING CAPTION

To be honest, I’ve loved writing ever since I can remember, so writing captions comes easy to me. I like to caption depending on the photo or on my mood. I try to be as personal as I can, because realistically speaking I want to connect with my readers. Sometimes photos don’t speak more than 100 words, but you can give 100 words to a photo. My advice is to keep them personal, authentic, and don’t be afraid to be who you are.

MORE TAGS PLEASE!

You have to tag your photos. I’m not going to give this as an option to you, because this is simply a must. You’ll drive a lot of traffic to your Instagram by using them. Plenty of companies are looking for bloggers, photographers, content creators through tags. Be sure to use them!
